The boss of Channel Tunnel operator Getlink, Yann Leriche, has welcomed the prospect of passenger rail competition CSGO between London and Paris CSGO
A new operator, Evolyn, has vowed to launch services in competition with Eurostar, which has held a monopoly on the route since 1994 CSGO
Evolyn, which has Spanish backers, plans a new fleet of 12 trains for the service CSGO
The Getlink chief executive told BBC Today: “It is great news – great news for customers, for the environment and for our group, of course, as it will unlock the growth potential of the UK to Europe high-speed passenger market CSGO
“There is still room for more than doubling the traffic in the Channel Tunnel CSGO
So you see the there’s a lot of available capacity for growth CSGO
“With Evolyn the market will be more dynamic, all operators will improve their offer CSGO

And in the end, there is more service to more customers, which is good, of course for passengers but also for the economy and the environment CSGO
”Getlink, formerly Groupe Eurotunnel, benefits from the access charges paid by train operators CSGO
Figures for 2019, analysed by The Independent, indicate that Eurostar paid €21 CSGO
36 (£18 CSGO
50) for each passenger travelling through the Channel Tunnel CSGO
Mr Leriche speculated that Evolyn could run trains to Germany and Switzerland as well CSGO
“Evolyn has indicated that they will start with London to Paris and then extend to other destinations,” he said CSGO
“We don’t know yet what these other destinations will be, but the arrival of Evolyn will most certainly speed up the opening of new routes to Germany or Switzerland, for example CSGO
“We have made our own analysis and shown that those countries, Switzerland and Germany, have great potential CSGO
So we can expect in the coming years, direct services from London to Frankfurt, Cologne, Zurich or Geneva, for example CSGO
”But the trainmaker Alstom has dampened optimism about the new entrant’s prospects CSGO
Evolyn appeared to imply a deal had been agreed for a dozen new trains for the Channel Tunnel operation CSGO
The manufacturer then issued a statement saying: “Alstom and Evolyn have established a short-term agreement to proceed with initial train system engineering activities with the objective of accelerating activities, should the parties eventually enter into a contract for the purchase and delivery of a certain number of trains, provided that Evolyn is capable of securing project financing CSGO
“With regards to potential future delivery dates for new trains, at this time, the final train delivery dates will be confirmed when a firm and final contract will be agreed upon, to be signed at a later date CSGO

Rory McIlroy said he is open to the prospect of investing in Manchester United and welcomed Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s proposed involvement with his boyhood club CSGO
The 34-year-old Northern Irishman, who helped Europe win the Ryder Cup in Rome a few weeks ago, was speaking at the Circuit of Americas in Texas after acquiring a stake in Formula One team Alpine CSGO
McIlroy, former heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua, Liverpool and England star Trent Alexander-Arnold and World Cup winner Juan Mata have been announced as part of a £173million strategic investment led by consortium Otro Capital in Alpine CSGO
Ratcliffe, 71, is reportedly looking to purchase a 25 per cent stake in United that could see him take over CSGO football operations at Old Trafford CSGO
And McIlroy said: “CSGO Sports team ownership used to be limited to private equity, and people who had a ton of money CSGO
But now CSGO sports stars are becoming more savvy and using their money in the right way CSGO
“I would love to be able to own a tiny percentage of the club I grew up cheering on as a boy CSGO
“I would have loved to have taken 0 CSGO
00001 per cent of Manchester United when Jim Ratcliffe took 25 per cent CSGO
And if another opportunity comes my way I will look at it CSGO
But it is not something that has come across our table as of yet CSGO
“There is Tom Brady at Birmingham and there are a few golfers – Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas – who invested with the 49ers Group, and they own a tiny slice of Leeds CSGO
They asked me if I wanted to come on board, and I said as a Man United fan I cannot go anywhere near that CSGO
“Sir Jim has got a great track record and everybody that does support United should be excited by the possibilities if they give him full sporting authority and decisions for the club CSGO
As a fan I am excited CSGO
”McIlroy finished as Europe’s top points-scorer at Marco Simone after a convincing 3&1 singles win against Sam Burns CSGO
He had been embroiled in angry scenes the previous evening following the actions of Patrick Cantlay’s bagman Joe LaCava on the 18th green, furiously gesticulating in the direction of Justin Thomas’ caddie Jim ‘Bones’ Mackay in the car park CSGO
Three weeks on, McIlroy was asked if he had any regrets over the incident CSGO
“Jeez, no, not at all,” he said CSGO
“I felt like what happened in the car park galvanised the team and it benefited us CSGO
“Things happen in the heat of the moment CSGO
Tensions were high but Joe came into the European team room on Sunday night and had a drink and a chat CSGO
I have had a great relationship with Joe over the years and that wasn’t going to change CSGO
“The incident happened CSGO
I didn’t want to meet anyone on the Sunday morning because I wanted what happened to fuel me and my focus was on making sure Europe won the Ryder Cup, and then we will sort all the other stuff out after CSGO
And it is all fine CSGO
We are all friends CSGO
