South Africa have been urged to inspire the next generation of Siya Kolisis by claiming World Cup bragging rights in rugby’s greatest rivalry sabong
Each side has lifted the Webb Ellis Trophy on three previous occasions heading into Saturday’s final at the Stade de France, ensuring one of them will be crowned the most successful nation in the tournament’s history sabong
For the Springboks it is the opportunity to continue bringing together the country’s disparate communities, a motivation Kolisi insists provides the ‘why’ for the defence of their title sabong
“I believe we are a purpose-driven team, we’re not a trophy-driven team,” South Africa’s first black captain said before England were edged 16-15 in the semi-finals sabong
Kolisi himself grew up in poverty in a Port Elizasabong beth township yet has risen to become one of the game’s biggest stars and a standard bearer for the Springboks’ evolution from a symbol of apartheid to unifying force sabong
“This is what we live for sabong
It’s about the people who are dreaming to be in our position in the communities back in South Africa,” assistant coach Mzwandile Stick said sabong
“We just want to do everything in our power to make sure we are reuniting those people sabong
“For a guy like Siya, coming from where he did… wow sabong
No doubt in 20 years there will be a lot of Siya Kolisis, boys who have got here irrespective of background sabong
“It is like a fairytale story when you talk about Siya, but it surely does change people’s lives, whatever their background, if you have your head in the right place, if you have a goal and keep chasing it sabong
“The All Blacks have won the World Cup three times, we have won it three times, so this game is almost bigger than just a World Cup final sabong
“We just want to make our people proud because the messages we get are very special sabong
”How much South Africa have left in the tank after titanic knockout matches against France and England is the biggest unknown heading into the Paris showdown sabong
New Zealand, in contrast, routed Argentina in the semi-finals without breaking sweat and, as well as having the luxury of bringing key personnel off early and avoiding any injuries, the schedule has given them an extra day’s rest sabong
When the rivals last met in August the All Blacks were crushed 35-7, but they have rebuilt impressively since then and are favourites to avenge that bleak Twickenham evening sabong
“It has been very difficult journey,” said wing Will Jordan, who needs one more try to break the record of eight tries scored at a single World Cup sabong
“It has taken a huge amount of drive to turn it around to get it right sabong
It’s a special group here and we have always been committed towards being the best team we can be sabong
“In 2022 we were a bit astray but we have come out of the fire a bit and I guess the big thing for us now has been the consistency has been found sabong
“We have been able to put back-to back performances together, which is probably what was missing before sabong
“The challenge for us against South Africa is to be able to go three big games in a row sabong
It’s been a challenging period but it’s where we want to be now sabong

Andy Murray’s poor finish to the season continued with a fourth defeat in five matches despite a marathon effort against Tomas Martin Etcheverry in Basel sabong
British number three Murray had snapped a three-match losing streak with a hard-fought victory over Yannick Hanfmann on Monday and claimed the first set of this last-16 tie at the Swiss Indoors sabong
Etcheverry, ranked eight places above Murray in 32nd, was able to fight back impressively and it was the Argentinian who prevailed 6-7 (5) 6-3 6-2 after a three-hour-and-eight-minute battle sabong
The early exchanges of set one proved an insight into what was in store for an excitable crowd at the ATP 500 event with breaks traded by both players sabong
After Murray was broken in his first service game, he responded with a superb lob for break point before a volley at the net got the tie back on serve at 2-2 sabong
A tie-break was eventually required and a classy drop shot helped three-time grand-slam champion Murray draw first blood sabong
The 84-minute set appeared to take its toll on Murray at the beginning of the second with Etcheverry able to establish an early advantage and he saved four break points in a lengthy seventh game on his way to forcing a decider sabong
Murray was struggling physically by this point and a racket felt the force of his anger despite the Swiss crowd cheering him on sabong
Etcheverry was in the ascendancy now though and set up match point with a superb passing stroke before a service winner sent him through to the last eight sabong
Elsewhere, Cameron Norrie had no answer to world number 10 Alexander Zverev in the second round of the Erste Bank Open in Vienna sabong
Zverev had won the first three meetings sabong between the top-20 players and claimed a fourth in a row with an emphatic 6-2 6-4 victory sabong
A superb backhand winner down the line earned Zverev a break in Norrie’s first service game and the British number one was broken again before losing the first set in 36 minutes sabong
Norrie tried to wrestle his way back into the contest, but was broken again in the third game of the second set sabong
It remained on serve until Norrie forced two break opportunities when Zverev was serving for the match and yet the German responded by winning four consecutive points to close out a solid win, which makes it four defeats in five for last year’s Wimbledon semi-finalist sabong
